The most recent quarterly report for Home Care Packages has been released and the Australian Government seem to believe it’s absolutely worth the wait.

As of March 2019, the number of older Australians on the National Prioritisation System is almost 130,000. And of that number, a staggering 70% have been assessed as needing high level care – yet they continue to wait.

The Government (via the data report) would prefer we focus on the positives in relation to just how many of those older Australian’s have been offered support while they wait – by way of 1 or 2 hours a week to cover all of their needs.

In reality it is as absurd and insufficient as it sounds. Someone with complex nursing and other needs related to dementia managing independently with 1 or 2 hours a week? This is the type of info the Royal Commission continues to raise as alarming and putting our most vulnerable at risk.

The relatively new Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care, Hon Richard Colbeck believes the additional funding his Government have already allocated has “already made a significant difference” however the proof is in the pudding in our opinion.
